Certificate Requirements

  • Complete Three (3) Courses from this track to receive a Basic Soul Care Certificate

  • Complete Six (6) Courses from this track and a related Ministry Practicum to receive a Advanced Soul Care Certificate

  • In some years, a Basic Certificate will be achievable in one year but Certificates can be achieved over multiple years

Mental Illness & Addiction

Did you know that more than 50% of people will be diagnosed with a mental illness at some point in their life. It is imperative that churches are equipped to support people struggling with mental illness and addiction. This course will provide an overview of mental health conditions and addiction, community resources that can help and best practices for offering support and making referrals.

Grief, Loss & Trauma

Everyone experiences loss and it is estimated that 90% of people experience a traumatic event at some point in their life. In the face of difficult situations people are more likely turn to the church for support. This class will provide students with a better understanding of grief and loss as well as practical strategies for offering support through the stages of grief. It will also provide an overview of trauma, triggers, deescalation and providing trauma informed care through church ministries.

Counseling and Care

It is essential for the body of Christ to be equipped to offer care when a brother or sister is struggling. This course will provide an over of pastoral counseling models and best practices for offering support.

Caring for Your Own Soul

While caring for others, it is important to maintain a healthy spiritual and emotional life. This class will teach spiritual disciplines, appropriate relational boundaries and other practices to help you mature and remain healthy.

Leading a Group

This course will teach the basics of group facilitation, phases of a group, strategies for creating a safe confidential environment, the difference between facilitation and teaching, different learning styles and facilitation methodologies, how to handle challenging group members and Christian models for support groups.

Additional courses will be offered as electives. These course will equip for a variety of types of care and counseling ministries. Examples include Freedom Prayer, advanced pastoral counseling, and addiction
