Certificate Requirements

  • Complete Three (3) Courses from this track to receive a Basic Urban Ministry Certificate

  • Complete Six (6) Courses from this track and a related Ministry Practicum to receive a Advanced Urban Ministry Certificate

  • In some years, a Basic Certificate will be achievable in one year but Certificates can be achieved over multiple years

Urban Ministry Foundations

This course will help students understand the urban context and what makes it distinctive, how the gospel addresses problems of the urban setting, Biblical foundations for a holistic and sustainable ministry approach and similarities and differences between a gospel and social justice approach to the city

Meeting Physical Needs in the Church and Community

This course will offer Biblical foundations in understanding poverty, illness and suffering, incorporate charity and sustainable models of ministry, and provide best practices for addressing poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, clothing, illness, etc.

Servant Leadership

his course will help students understand servant leadership, explore the servant attitude of Jesus, the importance of serving with quality and dignity, and the importance of being mindful of and working with people who have trauma and wounding.

Evangelism

This course will help students exploring different methods of evangelism for an urban setting including public preaching, outreach events, personal evangelism, and prayer evangelism among others.

Spiritual Maturity and Gifting

his course will help students understand the work of the Holy Spirit in ministry. We will explore spiritual gifts, maturity and how students can grow in each of these areas

Urban Ministry Electives

Additional courses will be offered as electives. These course will equip for a variety of types of outreach ministries. Examples include outreach best practices, addressing and understanding community needs, and listening to community
